November is national adoption awareness month

November is national adoption awareness month. And I have a goal.  A lofty one at that. I'm not sure what exactly I need to do to achieve this goal, but I know I need to start on my knees.

My goal is for everyone to make a choice when they decide to have children.  I wish for everyone to stop and think.  Should I have biological children or should I adopt?

I believe there are enough people in the world who would and could adopt, if they just thought about it.

Maybe you would, maybe you can. But please just think about it.  And pass it on.

Maybe you can't.  Maybe it isn't for you.  But please just think about it.  And pass it on.

I believe in a better world for children.  I believe in parents (or parent!) for every child.  I believe in families.  I believe in miracles.

And here is a fantastic music video to inspire the world. Please enjoy and spread the word!

Help orphans by shopping online

Yes! You read that right you can actually help orphans by shopping online. All you have to do is download a toolbar. After you download the toolbar select choose a cause and type in World Association for Children and Parents.  That's it! Now when you shop online at a participating store they will donate 1%-30% of your purchase to your cause (which is orphans I hope!).  There is over 2,500 stores that participate.  (Amazon, Macy's, Walmart, Sears, Dell, Expedia...just to name a few.)

Let me tell you WHY this is so important.

There are 143,000,000 orphans in the world.  And what do you think happens when they 'age out' of the system?

They die.

Or are homeless and unemployed.

Or they turn to a life of crime.

Or are prostitutes. (source)

Very few have a 'normal' life.

There are literately hundreds of ways to help orphans but this one doesn't cost you a dime.  So no excuses. If you have time to read my blog you have time to download the toolbar.  If you are on the internet right now, and you are if you are reading this, then likely you will be back again and can make good use of the toolbar.

If you choose to not help orphans around the world, either by using the toolbar or by some other means, then good luck sleeping well tonight knowing there are 143,000,000 orphans in the world who need your help and your prayers.

Think it's too hard to help 143,000,00 orphans?  Is anything too hard for God?

Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26 (NIV)

"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40 (NIV)

Repost this, tweet this, facebook this, email it, blog about it, tell your neighbor or tell your friends, but tell someone! The more people that know the more we can help.

Happy Birth Mother's Day

Today is a little known holiday. It's birth mother day.  Always the Saturday before Mother's Day, always left (mostly) unnoticed. I think it should be made just as important as Mother's Day.  After all many mothers couldn't celebrate Mother's Day without birth mothers.

Here's a shout out to birth mother's all over the world.  Your sacrifice to put your children above yourselves has created many happy families and has given countless children a better life.  And when children have better lives we are all winners.

Happy Birth Mother's Day!

May is National Foster Care Awareness Month

I just read that everyday there is 400,000 kids in foster care.  Wowzers! That's a lot.

This is the month we remember all the precious children and teens in foster care who need and deserve love.

This is the month we are thankful for all the foster parents.  The ones who love infants.  The ones who love older children.  The ones who love special needs children.  The ones who love sibling groups and keep them together.

Those who adopt from foster care will always have a special place in my heart.  Nothing like giving a child a forever home, with forever parents and forever love.

I can't think of anything more tragic than a teen who is 'aged-out'. They are called legal orphans and they have the rest of their lives ahead of them with no one to help guide them.  No parents to give them advice.  No parents to spend holidays with.  No one to call on Mother's Day or Father's Day.  No one to love them unconditionally when they fall, and no one to be proud of them when they succeed.

The system has failed them. America has failed them. We have failed them.  Many of these legal orphans put themselves up for adoption, just so they have somewhere to go on Christmas break, just to have someone to call Mom and someone to call Dad.

Thankfully, God calls many people to adopt from foster care. Thankfully, God calls people to adopt adults.

Is God calling you or someone you know?
